Hanson EcoHouse™

The construction of the Hanson EcoHouse™ at the BRE aims at providing a concept dwelling that brings together many of the latest developments in sustainable construction using modern masonry materials.

It has been planned in the context of the Government's voluntary Code for Sustainable Housing, which was introduced in December 2006, enabling developers to demonstrate by means of ‘star ratings' the environmental performance of their dwellings. It forms part of a package of developments aimed at achieving zero carbon housing for the future. Technical Guidance in complying with the Code has been published this year. Hanson House 2

Designed as a 3 bed detached dwelling Hanson EcoHouse™ has been constructed alongside Hanson House 1, to demonstrate the progress made in the intervening two years. It was decided to do this by refining its own innovations, trialled on HH1 and incorporating them into a purpose-designed dwelling conceived to show all the benefits of offsite fabrication that together with thermal mass and natural ventilation assists in the achievement of the zero carbon target that house builders and developers will have to meet by 2016.

Spaceover House

Volumetric housing provider Spaceover will demonstrate modules from a live housing project, South Chase New Hall, in Harlow. The two storey house is constructed from a new volumetric system approach that takes into account some of the major drivers in the housing sector, in particular the need for much higher levels of energy efficiency, sound insulation and the benefits of renewable energy sources. Its innovative open plan design reflects the requirements of the modern lifestyle. Spacover House
